My Dear Eardley
I have just sent you a long wire saying no message yet from Mrs Owens either by telegram or letter. This is running it rather fine don’t you think? Of course it is a long post to Sandy Haven and I can’t help thinking she may have closed her house, end of her season & gone on holiday – something of this sort would account for the delay in replying, at least, the telegram (prepaid). I shall feel very silly & very sad if she can’t accommodate me - the little Sutherland map has bewitched me & go I must.
Your letter was a real Godsend – obedient – of course! More than a spot – with such fool proof instructions can I possibly go wrong? Thank you for making the journey so cosy & pleasant & for promising to meet me Monday night at 6.20 p.m. Bath.
I note you leave London Sat: morn: I hope this will reach you in time. I will send a few lines to Bath in case. Mrs Knollys has written me a charming letter bidding us come & welcome & if all goes well come I shall. All this, of course, will be cancelled if Mrs O replies in the negative.
Late Final Got your Flask
I have seen the Newberry Family twice since you left. I would like you to know how much they enjoyed our, your, joint visit. It was all to the good. I think the 2 sisters & artist son-in-law are solid on the side of your getting the studio. Your charmed Mother & daughter. This visit was a success. Graham Sutherlands “sweet smile” also much appreciated. I said See his Pictures ----.
No time for more – now 4.30 pm Friday afternoon. Love Frances
