Dear Eardly Knollys
I was just going to call Stiles a Lame Dog and something else besides when comes your charming & graceful note saying that you are at last in possession of your very own gouache specially painted for you and above all that you like it, to have and to hold for so long as you fancy; keep fit; enjoy it for a while & pass it on in the impermanent way of all art.
I like to imagine Frank Combs, with you, giving me a Show if he were here. Bless his memory!
You have not mentioned the frame. I hope it was decent & up to the Stiles war time best.
I too have reason to give heart felt thanks.
Yours Sincerely Frances Hodgkins
