Dearest Dorothy
I have had your letter [deleted] postcard and am surprised & sorry to hear you are still under treatment. I am afraid you must have seriously hurt yourself & have made more light of it than was advisable & of course it was unfortunate your own doctor being away. I expect you have been too brave & Spartan & not taken proper care of yourself at the out set so like your unselfish self!
Personally I am grieved you cannot put in a week or so, or more, up here in the Black Mts some 400 ft above Cardigan Bay level. The air is pure & bracing & it is amost deathly quiet after the racket of Corfe Castle & elsewhere.
Such nice folk keep it. It is off the beaten track now mostly visited by fishermen & officials connected with the various Ministries (supply, defence, fuel etc) who call periodically.
So far the weather has been rough – v rough – but better now & looks set fair. I have managed to snatch a few sketches in between Showers. I wish to stop so long as possible. Corfe was beginning to rattle me, I dread going back.
Better news of EB. She has now permission to renew her tyres if she can find them! AK is indignant to be told to get a license for her Pottery – after all these years.
Looks as an effort of total warfare at last!
Speaking to a man just come from Solva yesterday, he said it bristled with mines etc & was no good for sketching. Sunday post goes early & as I want this to reach you soon I must stop. No need to say how sorry I am you can’t come and for the reason you can’t come – ‘tis the sort of place you’d like. It suits me all excepting my pocket but I hope it is going to repay me. Feeling pretty well on the whole & all the better for a change in climate.
Much love & a happy & speedy recovery. Frances
