My Dear Douglas
So many thanks for your nice letter & son’s picture. He is a right good boy – like you. Poor lad with his teething troubles ahead! Too bad.
It is good of you to say you will put me up on arrival. Perhaps it will be easier like that but what I would like is to sleep & eat at Inn (if any) & so spare you & Jane extra work (I know visitors & teething don’t go together). Also I am rather damn lazy these days & need rest & don’t like doing domestic jobs on holiday. I have lots in my house & hate it so – it put me right off my stroke – I am so bad at it. So please Douglas if you will let me rent your attic, studio, spare room, loft? To work in it will be just what I want & will I hope suit you also. I do very little work out of doors & rely on small scale neat drawings which I enlarge later.
As to date I will come along as soon as I can. That is finish some work for the Leicester Gallery & Lefevre as promised, get it packed & off. Then I am free some time next week. I will wire you date avoiding Bank Holiday. Will find out trains & route & let you know day & hour of arrival. I must see about Permit - so far no need for one. Can I get it at Brixham or where?
Love & seeing you soon I hope Frances
