Hotel Belle Vue – Montreuil a mer Pas de Calais France June 24th [1924]
Dear Miss Selby
I got here a few days ago from St Paul. I have made arrangments with this Hotel – it is a sister house to the older Hotel de France, & has the same standard tho’ not, of course, the atmosphere of that famous inn.
Still this is very comfortable in a plain sort of way – food most excellent – & the patron & his wife very kind & nice.
It is outside the walls & more countrified than “le France” I think you will like it. The Saturday market is a great draw. The tariff is 30 frcs a day – which is high but the season is so short they have to make the most of it while it lasts. I have booked a nice room for you from the 16th August for a fortnight.
You can change English money here. The best route is Victoria 9 o’c – Boulogne 12-30. Etaples 1-33 Montreuil 3-30.
There is a paint shop here. It is cool & green after the Midi – if less exciting.
Yours sincerely Frances Hodgkins
