Dear Mrs Field
Thank you so much for your kind letter and the very welcome calendar. I am so sorry to hear of your accident and glad that you have recovered so well. I expect you will have heard from Miss Selby her only sister died last year & her only brother died a few weeks ago. They all lived together & she feels very lonely. She was devoted to Frances as I expect you know. I am enclosing a card which I think will interest you. The building on the right side of the card is the back of Frances’ old studio. If I can get a drawing of the front & her cottage, I will send it to you. I hope you received the copies of the “Frances H” “Penguin”. The plate No.9 [29] is a painting she did of her front door and the old steps that Wesley was supposed to have preached from. Of course, her work is not at all realistic but the most beautiful colour and design.
It always takes such a long time to settle up anyone’s affairs. I expect it is really necessary as so often you read of money being left to people who can’t be traced and it gives them time to apply before an estate is closed. I should think you should soon hear from Mr Piper.
We are having a very mild winter & I only hope we shan’t get frost & now just when the fruit buds are starting to form. With all good wishes for 1949 to you and Mr Field & very many thanks for your kind thought of sending me a parcel, it’s very good of you both.
Yours sincerely Amy E Krauss
