My dear Mrs Field
How very kind of you to send me such a wonderful parcel and I can only thank you both for the parcel and your good wishes! I was so glad to hear of you again as it seemed such a long time since you had written, and I was afraid that you had been ill.
I know you will be sorry to hear that I have had great trouble, having just lost my only brother. He, my sister and I had lived for so many years in such happy companionship that you will understand what the blank in my life now is.
I saw Mr Piper not long ago at his Exhibition, which seemed very successful, and am hoping to see him later and again discuss the possibility of a memorial of Frances’ work, but I agree with him that when it is held it must be really comprehensive and in the right place. I think you will have heard from Mr Piper’s brother (the “Solicitor” who was dealing with Frances’ affairs) but if there should be any point on which you or your family wish to ask me please let me know.
Thanking you again for your gift and best wishes to you all. Yours very sincerely D.M. Selby
