Dear Mrs Field
Thank you so much for the parcel which arrived this week. It was indeed kind of you to think of it. I was very worried when I saw Miss Selby at Whitsuntide to know that Mr Piper had not sent over a copy of Frances’ Will. I trust that this has now been done. I know he is a very busy man & probate takes a long time. Often over a year! Miss Selby wrote Mr Piper about it. He should have done it at once. I am expecting him here to go through the few things left in the studio & cottage (they were mostly furnished by the Newberys’ things).
I hear from Miss Ritchie & Miss Saunders with whom Frances lived in Manchester for some years that there is to be an important exhibition of her work there shortly and also that there will be a big retrospective one in London. I am very busy in the pottery & also wrestling with the fruit in the garden. We are also busy having meetings as there is a rumour that not only are the army sticking to the lovely country they took over for firing practice during the war but they have their eye on the whole of the Isle of Purbeck which means that they will take Swanage & Corfe Castle up to Wareham as well. People were turned out of houses & farms at 3 weeks’ notice just before Xmas then & promised them back when the war was over. The army are still sticking to it all & want bigger stretches of country. So, we are agitating while there is still time to stop them from acting. I hope you are well & with very kind regards to Mr Field & yourself. Yours sincere Amy E Krauss
