My dear Mrs Field
I thought of you all yesterday when Frances was cremated at Weymouth. A very simple ceremony with a few intimate friends present – as she would have wished. Dorothy brought your wreath from London with her & she placed it on the coffin. The clergyman lead a short service – then the coffin slid back behind doors which closed & it was all over. You will have heard from Dorothy; Frances had very few possessions besides her clothes; any finished pictures & drawings are at the Gallery, not many as she had done very little work for a year or two.
The drawings etc in the studio were mostly odd notes & things she had used as material I imagine. You will hear all about them from Mr Piper. It’s all in good hands & they will tell you what has been done. A note came just after she died from the Prime Minister asking her if he might submit her name in the birthday honours as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire. I sent it on to Mr Piper.
Dorothy is coming to Corfe at Whitsuntide & she & I shall be dealing with her clothes & few possessions at the cottage.
With very kind regards to you & Mr P. Field. Yours sincerely Amy E. Krauss.
