My dear Frances
How are you getting on all this time & when do you think of coming back to Paris? It is quite safe here now for the Zeppelin visits, though noisy & bombastic (I don’t mean any harm) are not very effectual.
I have neither seen nor heard anything of Mr Griffith & wonder if he ever came to Paris for your boxes. By the way I had them sent to his address as you asked & gave the concierge at 27 Rue de Fleurus the tip you sent for her.
The war weighs too heavily here for one to do much concentrated work, I am with Mabel Harrison & two other artist women have been here doing a training in massage with the object of helping some of the poor wounded to regain the use of their limbs when bandages & splints are removed. Much red tapeism has to be overcome as usual here but I hope to start on some patients this week. To many of our old friends have been killed in their awful war & sons of friends. Nearly every day I see an acquaintance’s name on the roll of honour. The pick of the Army has gone & the Kitchener’s Battalions have still to win their spurs. Atherton & I keep in touch with the British wounded at Versailles, the only British Hospital in Paris neighbourhood and there we hear the real appalling tragedy in detail, get only half told, for they feel it too much to talk very much about it poor lads.
Miss Wallis has taken a studio in your 29 (27?) house but she still nurses at the Canadian Hospital & does menial jobs heroically.
(Written on top of first sheet) I should love to get news from you Frances dear, & to hear of the people of St Ives and the work done there & your impressions generally. Have you many pupils. I shall be with Lil in Devonshire during May, will there be a chance of seeing you I wonder. Much love Yrs Bridget.
We love our studio & the balcony & sky therefrom
