My Dear Will
I think you and Sis have a picture of mine called “April” in a white carved frame. I am writing to ask you if you will be so kind as to send it to Mr Peter Waite in Adelaide – and get Butler to take it out of its frame & roll it (if it is rollable) and either post it or better still send it care of some passengers. (I know it is a case of “first catch your flea”) I would like it to have been sent in its nice frame but this wld mean expense & a stiff duty. I know Mr Waite will not mind paying duty on a picture he really likes. As you know he has been so generous & fine to me and I naturally wish to give him something he will appreciate. He finds my modern work out of character & keeping with his house – which is easy to understand. There are quite a number of people who still prefer my earlier period – I hope to convert them in time.
If it proves necessary to send “April” by post, it will be better to price it low – say £10. The address is- Peter Waite Urrbrae Adelaide – and if you will be very kind & get it off as quickly as possible I shall be more than grateful to you. I only hope you will forgive me bothering you. I never forget you are one of the busiest men in the world. When are you and Sis coming Home? Don’t postpone it too long – Judge Rich writes this week from Adelaide – he has seen Mr Waite & thought him looking very changed – very aged. I am pretty busy – pupils here and at Newlyn. I am climbing steadily I hope. Times are thick & thin by turns. Wonderful what one lives through! My love to you all and forgive me for troubling you. Affectionally yrs Frances
