My dearest Sis
I was so glad to get your welcome letter and to hear from yourself that you are keeping so well and regaining your strength so rapidly only do be careful not to do too much, but I expect that is daily impressed upon you by both Mother and the nurse.
I shall be very proud and flattered to be the baby’s Godmother and it was very kind of you to think of me.
Thank Mother for her letters. Mrs Finker told me with great delight that she has had eight pages from Mother but. I felt very jealous for she never honored us with so many but when the letter was produced it turned out to be quite a short leter but Mrs F. had counted the blank sides. Mrs F keeps her eye on me and is always popping in at odd hours to see how I am getting on. The Savage Club is to commence again next Monday, this time under quite a new regime. Mrs I. Cargill, Mrs Woodhouse & Mrs Boyd are to be the presidents and a very good trio they will make. Did you hear that Willie Reynolds is engaged to Miss Hunter, the engagement wasn’t given out till she had left in the Morayshire last Wednesday. She is very delicate indeed and the trip out here doesn’t seem to have benefited her as much as they expected. There was a tremendous crowd down to see the Morayshire passengers off. Dora and Miss Patterson both sent love and congratulations to you, also love without congratulations to Mother. Maggie Gilkison came up to see me the oher day. She has Mrs Michie staying with her. I think Mrs Michie’s friends find her rather a nuisance, for everyone is feteing her before she leaves for Auckland (to which place they are moved) and Maggie is of course asked our everywhere with her.
Willie took me to see Charlie’s Aunt one night last week. At the last minute May Kenyon trotted in and asked if we would take her. Willie looked quite sick for a minute but he had to put as good a face upon it as he could but he was very unamiable all the evening. Mrs Bartleman came up yesterday and poured all her servant troubles into my most unsympathetic ears. Tell Mother that Selina has treated her just like that wretched Kate treated us. Now she is without, and to make matters worse Dorothy is down with whooping cough.
On Friday, tell Mother, Mrs Jones, Mrs I McLean and Mrs Turnbull & Mrs Bathgate called all under the impression that she had returned. I am going out calling with Mrs Cargill tomorrow. Daisy Morris and her husband are down here for a few days, they are paying a flying visit to the Morris boys on their different stations.
Well dear old Girl I must say goodnight. Father has got rather a heavy cold and I am going to dose him with eucalyptus to prevent it going any further.
With best love to Mother and your own dear self and my little godchild and Will ever your loving sister Fanny.
Thanks for the paper with the description of the earthquake in it, it must have given you a nasty fright.
